Pakistan Prince Shows Fitness

“The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH.

Pakistan Prince confirmed his fitness for the second leg of the double at Foxton by sprinting stylishly at Awapuni yesterday.

Never off the bit, he returned good time for five furlongs and is ready for a bold race in his first outing for the season. Silver Knight was almost as impressive as his stablemate, and looks an outstanding prospect for the Barber Handicap. Most fast work took place on the inside trial which was in good order. Pakistan Prinec strode over five furlongs in Imin 4sec. He travelled easily all the way and could have done much better than 39 2-ssec for the last three furlongs. A run at the matinee meeting on Tuesday has improved him considerably, and he will be close to peak form tomorrow.

Purakau was doing better than Turfman at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 33sec, taking 39 4-ssec for the final three furlongs. Purakau has weighed in at his last four starts and might play a hand in the finish of the Price Hurdles.

Edward James is in good order. He sprinted three furlongs with a Sobig gelding and then jumped four standard hurdles in good style. Status and Ascona were paired over seven furlongs in Imin 41sec. Ascona will have his first start over a middle distance in the Bergin Handicap.

Dee Cee Eight and Te Kunia were responsible for a smart effort over five furlongs. They recorded Imin 3 2-ssec for the distance, the last three in 39sec: Girl and Golden Foam ran the final three furlongs of their fivefurlong trial in 39sec.

Silver Knight gave a start to Flash, but was well clear at the finish of five furlongs in Imin 3sec, and had something in hand over the last three in 38sec. They grey colt has done particularly 'well since his fast-finishing fifth at Hastings and will appreciate the extra furlong tomorrow.
