STEEL MILL DUST
Statement By Company (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 19. New Zealand Steel, Ltd, was making every effort to reduce the dust nuisance from its Glenbrook plant, the genera! manager (Mr J. H. Ingram), said today. Asked to comment on reports of a dust nuisance in the area, he said changes were being made to the dustcontrol equipment, which had given trouble in recent months. The dust was nontoxic, being mainly iron oxide and carbon which had escaped from gases emitted during two different processes used in the mill. Residents had been kept informed of developments, through a committee the company had formed with representatives of residents, Federated Farmers, - the Fruitgrowers’ Association and the Franklin County Council
The trouble had been found in the 31.5 m pollution control plant installed by the company. Contractors were now making modifications, which were expected to prevent another emission.
