WATER POLO COURSE
N.Z. Coach In Christchurch
The national water polo coach (Mr W. H. Dyson) will be in Christchurch between August 14-16 to assist in running a course for junior players being held by the Canterbury Water Polo Board.
The programme was approved by delegates at the board’s annual meeting last evening. It will consist of talks on rules, basic skills, team tactics, the theory of coaching methods and practical demonstrations. The possibility of surf club members being able to play water polo without first joining a swimming club was discussed. As it would mean the amending of several rules, it was agreed that no changes would be made this season, although the situation would be reviewed.
The swimming centre representative (Mr D. Johnson) raised the question of clubs playing unregistered water polo players. Mr A. Chappell said that only a small percentage were not affiliated with clubs and efforts would be made to “bill” these players. Each club would keep a list of its registered players and no-one unfinancial would be allowed to participate. Officers elected were: chairman and honorary secretary, Mr B. Spears; treasurer, Mr T. Whitta; centre delegate to Canterbury Swimming Centre, Mr G. A. Mutichson; gear steward, Mr P. Hay; competition controller, Mr A. Chappell.
House Burgled.—The police are investigating the burglary of a house tn Barbadoes Street from which a handbag and contents worth $4O were taken on Monday night
