NEW COURT BUILDING
Sketch Plans Advanced
Advanced sketch plans of the new Supreme Court in Christchurch were now being worked out by the Ministry of Works the District Architect (Mr R. M. Abel) said yesterday. When completed the plans would be submitted to the Justice Department and the Cabinet Works Committee for approval. Subject to this, the Ministry would then prepare working drawings which would also be referred back to the clients and Cabinet Works Committee, together with a firm estimate of cost The Government would then decide on the calling of tenders Mr Abel was unable to give any date as to when tenders for the project could be called. An announcement would probably be made by the Minister of Justice later. Opossum Control The demand for opossum blocks in the Arthur’s Pass National Park last year was average, says the Park Board's annual report to the National Parks Authority. Nineteen permits were issued to 46 operators, and 10,915 opossums were killed. Only 630 of these were taken on the eastern side of the park, the report says.
