SMITHFIELD MARKET
The British dock strike resulted in brisk trading on Smithfield Market last week, the Meat Board reported. Quotations were steady for moderate supplies of Homeproduced meat and light supplies of imported meat In general, wholesalers have acted on Government requests to avoid excessive prices. Imported meat prices are on a mainly nominal basis, as only a part of the published stocks of meat in store are available for trading. The main grade of New Zealand lamb (prime 29/361b) was quoted at 35(d to 36d per lb, or 2d higher than last week. The main grade of New Zealand wether mutton (49/561b) was quoted at 25d per lb. Ewe mutton was quoted at 23d per lb. Quotations for New Zealand
lamb were:— Price Var'n d. d, per lb per lb Prime:— 281b and under 36 +U 29 to 3«lb 351-36 +2 37 to 421b 33i*34i +24 43 to SOlb 31i +11 f.a.o 281o and under 331-36 +31 29 to 361b 35J-36 +23 Omega:— 281b and under 34 29 to 361b 34 +14 New Zealand boneless 0? beef was quoted at nomina 1 prices. The range was:— Topsides .. 60 Rumps . . 72 78 Silversides .. 59 Thick Flanks .. 58 —
