Boycott Celebrates Recall To Test

G. Boycott, who celebrated his England test recall with an undefeated century on Saturday, scored an impressive 98 next day to help Yorkshire beat Essex by 43 runs in the English Sunday cricket league.
Boycott, who scored 230 not out against Essex in the county championship 24 hours earlier reached his half-cen-tury in 59 minutes, hitting one six and 12 fours. Essex, replying to Yorkshire’s 189 for four, made only 146 for eight in its allotted number of overs, in spite of a 54 not out by the spin bowler, R. Hobbs.. The pace bowler, D. Brown, hit back at the England selectors who dropped him from the fourth test against the Rest of the World beginning on Thursday, by taking five wickets for 13 runs in Warwickshire’s 129-run victory over Worcestershire. The league leader, Lancashire, was beaten by Surrey. Kent moved to within four points of Lancashire after its four-wicket win over Sussex. The third-placed Derbyshire beat Nottinghamshire by 37 runs.
