Two Players Dropped From League Squad

Two members of the Canterbury team which failed to wrest the Rugby League Cup from West Coast last month, H. K. Butler (Papanui) and E. Brown (Addington), have been omitted from the squad of 17 to train for the southern zone quadrangular tournament at Wellington on August 8 and 9.

The 1963 New Zealand forward, J. H. Fisher (Addington), and two players who have not previously appeared in a first-class match, N. McGinty (Linwood) and A. C. Rushton (Christchurch - Eastern Suburbs), have been included by the selectors (Messrs E. Butts, D. L. Blanchard and H. J. Walker). A. W. Thompson (Papanui) who also played against West Coast, has said that he will not be available for club oi representative football again this season. Fisher played only occasionally for Addington early this season and did not become available for Canterbury until just before the cup challenge. On that occasion he was not selected because his fitness was suspect. GOOD SEASON * The little centre McGinty, has enjoyed a most successful season and has scored 12 tries for Linwood, being the third leading individual senior scorer behind A. F. McNaughtan (Addington, 14) and N. A. Geddes (Papanui, 13). Rushton, a provincial lowergrade representative on several occasions, has earned promotion after a series of promising displays for his club.
