TAX SYSTEM IN BRITAIN
Reform Needed, Says Barber (N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—-Copyright) LONDON, July 27. Britain’s new Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Anthony Barber) says he sees a need for reforming the country’s tax system, because it leaves the average citizen with a sense of frustration. Speaking a day after he was appointed by the Prime Minister (Mr Heath) to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr Iain Macleod, Mr Barber told a radio interviewer that there was a great deal wrong with the present system. “It frustrates the average citizen, making him feel that everything he does comes to nothing because the old bureaucratic machine goes grinding on relentlessly,” Mr Barber said. “We must have a return to a real and effective freedom of choice. What I want to do is to work for the maximum freedom of individual decision."
