DEMANDS REJECTED
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, July 27. The pay rise demands by Britain’s dockers have been rejected by an independent court of Inquiry, and a compromise offered. The court, appointed in a bid to find a middle line between the strikers’ demands and the employers’ offer, rejected the men’s plea for an increase of from slightly more than £ll a week to £2O. Instead, it recommended the dockers to accept the offer by the employers of a guaranteed £2O a week whether or not there was any work for them. Higher overtime pay and more holiday pay are also advocated by the Conrt in its report Immediately the report was disclosed, the leaders of the unions and the employers’ representatives were called to the Ministry of Employment and Productivity for talks.
