OBITUARY
Mr N. A. Brown A man who has known th* heads of many thousands of. Christchurch men in the last - 20 years died in Christchurch J on Thursday. He was Mr Norman Alexander Brown, formerly of Dunedin, but who spent the bulk of his working ■ life in hairdressing saloons in ’ Christchurch. He was 65. When not concerned with hairdressing Mr Brown man- “ aged to build up a consider- . able reputation among dog - lovers in Canterbury. He was , the secretary of the Canter- . bury Kennel Club Association and helped form other bran- , ches throughout the province. ■ He was also secretary of I the Canterbury Dachshund I Club and the Canterbury Terrier Club and bred bull terriers.
From time to time over a ■ number of years he produced "The Terrier Times.”
For 20 years Mr Brown was manager of Finneys hairdressing shop in Cathedral Square near the United Service Hotel. Before the Second World War he ran his i own shop in Manchester Street and on his return to New Zealand after the war he worked in Finneys High Street shop.
During the war he served overseas and was a sergeant in'the New Zealand Army. For many years he was president of the Canterbury Hair-dressers’ Union and after its amalgamation with the Amalgamated Shop Assistants’ Union he was vice-pre-sident in charge of the hairdressing section.
