Christchurch Win Well Deserved

CHRISTCHURCH 21: B Cochrane. R, Knight (2) tries; D. Arnold, three conversions and a dropped goal. UNIVERSITY B IS: M. Brown a try; G. Bracefield, three penalty goals and conversion. A brilliant try which covered 80 yards of territory, and resulted in both Cochrane and Knight handling the ball three times as they inter-passed between each other, waa the highlight of Christchurch’s win at tlam Park. Both teams played attractive Rugby, with Christchurch having a decided advantage In the line-outs through Its big lock, W. Risman. whose two-handed catching of the ball was a feature of the game. Apart from line-outs, the University forwards held their own and provided the best loose forward in P. Mcßride.

Christchurch’s back-line functioned smoothly. A. Penny sent out long, accurate passes to his five-eighths and they had the pace and initiative to make full use of them.

Knight had another fine game and was rewarded with two tries, D. Bruce was steady at

first five-eighth, and both wingers—Gordon and Cochraneshowed out with aggressive running. The University backs did not show the same incisiveness as their opposites on attack, but defended stoutly.

In the Christchurch forwards D. Pyatt served as an admirable partner for Risman, while the number eight, P. Dalzell, was an effective link in Christchurch's attack when he ran with the ball from the back of the scrum.

The student pack toiled hard, but for little success. M. Hard* ing gave nothing away in the scrums and was often first man to the ball in loose play. L, O’Reilly and J. Dickason were in the thick of most forward battles and they, along with Mcßride, ended the match with, honours.

Referee: Mr K. Osbourn.
