F. Hooper Wins Cycling Race
The Rangiora Cycling Club held a series of races in conjunction with the Hornby and Christchurch clubs in perfect conditions at Rangiora on Saturday. A. N. Shaw, riding from the limit, held a two-minute lead at the end of the first 16mile lap, but was reached on the second and final lap by the backmarkera. The race was won by the scratch rider, F. R. Hooper Results:— Hooper (scr.>, 1:23:23, 1; T. C. Gibbs (scr.), 1:23:23.2, 2; B. Gibbs (Simin), 1:30:24, 3; G. Randell (9min), 1:35:58, 4; A. Howison (llmin), 1:40:7, 5. Fastest time: Hooper. Fastest junior: B. Gibbs. A combined A and B grade novice event of five miles resulted in good finishes for both grades. M. Maxwell, sprinting strongly, held off a strong challenge from P. Court in the A grade, while R. Amtman convincingly won the B grade. Results were:— Novice A and B Grade (five miles).—R. Amtman (2min), 13:28.0, 1; P. Gregan (2}min), 13:58.2, 2: G. Glen (2}min), 13:58.4, 3. Fastest time: Amtman (B grade). A grade winner and fourth overall: Maxwell (scr.). 12:43.0.
