Smart Youngsters To Start Racing
There are several two-year-olds with rather interesting backgrounds entered to race for the first time at the Christchurch Hunt meeting at Riccarton next week. Pleasure Pal is one. He is a good type of gelding by My Pal from Lady York, trained by P. H. Andrews, and he looks very bright and fit Lady York won several races while trained by G. R. Pelling. She was by Isaac of York out of Pleasure Bent, by Defaulter out of Gaysome, which earned some notoriety by jumping the Washdyk’e boundary fence on to the main road, after contesting a race there. She was always a hard puller. Pleasure Bent was a sister to Gay Fault, which won a number of races in the North Island, including the principal event at Ellerslie one day when she performed the “impossible,” of carrying 121 b over-weight to victory. She became the dam of a firstclass Australian performer, Gay Vista, which won 16 races on metropolitan courses in Sydney and Melbourne. Actionaire, from A. E. Didham’s stable, is also a gelding by My Pal, from the staying-bred mare. Share, by Marco Polo II out of Sharatz, by Foxbridge out of Mary Jane. Share, in spite of her stamina stamped pedigree, won a six furlong event as a two-year-old at Washdyke. A later win was over nine and a half furlongs at Rangiora. A member of a well-known and very successful family is Lincoln’s Inn, a gelding by Test Case raced by the estate of A. N. Smith and trained by J. C. Tomkinson at Riccarton. He is a big fellow whose appearance suggests he may be a better stayer than his half-brothers, Hushaway. Shipmate, Shipmaster, and Shipboard. A really impressive individual is Best Game, a big colt
by Ribotlight out of Glorious Twelfth, a winner at Gore, and balf-sister to the Grand National Steeplechase winner, Game Call. Glorious Twelfth was sired by Callander out of Ptarmigan, by Moorcock out of Bronze Light, whose dam, Lucky Light, was out of imported Simper. Best Game is a powerful colt which has furnished rapidly after a slow beginning. He is a member of the team of G. D. Lee.
