Family Planning Council To Shift
To meet the “population challenge” in vast, rural areas, the headquarters of the South-East Asia and Oceanic Regional Council of the Internal Planned Parenthood Federation will shortly he moved from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. Singapore had provided the right environment for many years—a state with a major population problem being tackled first by voluntary effort and then by Government action, says a report from the I.P.P.F. Now the Singapore Family Planning Programme had already achieved its main objectives. Moreover, Singapore was a highly urbanised society, and the population challenge of the region must increasingly be met in the vast rural areas. It was also a long-standing decision that the regional headquarters should be established in different countries of the region from time to time. The regional headquarters
were set up in Singapore in the early 19605. Since late 1963 one of the principle activities has been training. A total of 888 doctors, nurses, midwives, social workers,. organisers and others have been trained. Of these 247 have come from Singapore, 211 from the Philippines, 145 from Indonesia, 104 from Thailand, 101 from Malaysia, and 80 from other parts of the region.
