Rugby League Test
Sir, —Could you ascertain whether the Canterbury Rugby League intends to remove or dismantle the goal posts on the No. 2 ground at the Show Grounds, close to the posts at the south-western end of the No. 1 ground for the second Rugby league test match between Great Britain and New Zealand next Sunday. The proximity of the two sets of posts can, in my opinion, be a rather distracting influence to many of those seeing games at the Show Grounds and apparently even to players playing on the ground for the first time. —Yours, etc., FOOTBALL ENTHUSIAST. July 14, 1970. [The publicity officer of the Canterbury Rugby League (Mr W. A. Whitehead) said that the test would be played on a centra] field, resited for the convenience of spectators. The goal-posts referred to by “Football Enthusiast” had been removed.]
