Cup Trial Rivals Impress

“The Press" Special Service HASTINGS.

Royal Tudor, Tudor Lad and Jest-in-Time, rival candidates for the Winter Cup Trial, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Manawatu Hunt races at Awapuni tomorrow, impressed in training at Hastings yesterday.

There is a useful team of Hawke’s Bay horses engaged at the meeting including Agra, Winner of the Mana

watu Hunt Cup 12 months, ago, and a candidate for the same race again this week He worked pleasingly. The course proper trestles were well out beyond the proper distance and the going was heavy. The plough was in excellent order. On the course proper Royal Tudor (R. Harris) was travelling easily beside Jest-in-Time (L. Carston) and Tudor Lad (D. Withington) on completion of six furlongs in Imin 22 l-ssec, the last three in 43 3-ssec. They went fast early and eased down in the straight. Royal Tudor has great class but he has had a lengthy

spell and may need a race or two. The others, however, make considerable appeal. Slattery, which might not be out of his depth in the Tararua Hack Plate, ran six furlongs with Emir in Imin 22 3-ssec, the last three taking 43 3-ssec. Slattery is improving. Deyalta (L. Carston) and Sheherazade (R. Marsh) ran six furlongs in Imin 22 l-ssec, the last three in 43 3-ssec. Deyalta is in the Bainesse Juvenile but will probably need a race or two. On the plough Just William (R. Marsh) ran three furlongs in 39 2-ssec, to top of! his work.

Luana (L. Carston) and Mr Sin (P. Waaka) worked together on the course proper and completed three furlongs in 40 3-ssec, both galloping very boldly. McDella (T. Bradley) also worked boldly on th course when running five furlongs in Imin 8 l-ssec, the last three in 41sec. He may not be long regaining the winning list. Hosh (M. Burridge) also worked on the course proper and ran three furlongs in 40sec. He hit out well. He was off colour at Trentham ibut has recovered.
