RED WOLF BEST AT AWAPUNI

“The Press’* Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Red Wolf showed he might be a threat in the Tararua Hack Plate at the Manawatu meeting tomorrow when he ran the best five furlongs on the inside trial at Awapuni yesterday morning.

Red Wolf was travelling easily alongside Edward James at the end of five furlongs in Imin ssec, the last three in 39sec Red Wolf was trapped by the going at Trentham, but he has eome through recent racing in fine heart. He should go a good mile tomorrow. Sweet Bourbon went fast early then eased to complete six furlongs in Imin 22sec, the last three in 43jsec. He has done well since Trentham and has good form to back up his chance this week.

Goolden Aurora took Imin 21 4-ssec for six furlongs and ran her last three in 38 4-ssec. She is another fit local runner engaged in the Tararua Hack Plate. Kirkman and Judy Durham were supposed to have run five furlongs together, but Judy Durham broke away and finished in front Kirkman, which has been working well, was timed over five in Imin lOsec, the last three in 42sec. SLOW TIME

On the course proper much interest centred on Jay Ribbon, which galloped six furlongs with Fair Alex. The start was ragged and Fair Alex was soon well in front. Jay Ribbon made up ground at the finish and The five took Imin 14sec, which was little better than 15sec to the furlong. Jay Ribbon remained at Trentham after the Whyte Handicap as shipping difficulties prevented a return home. The horse struck a nerve while working for the Parliamentary Handicap and it was thought that he had broken down. He missed a little work as a result, and will be all the better for the gallop. Dingus and Jack’s Bay

schooled well over three fences then ran a mile on the course proper. Jack’s Bay will not be out of it in the Manawatu Hut Cup.
