New N.Z. Hymns
A selection of modern New Zealand hymns, only recently published by Contemporary Hymns (N.Z.), Ltd, will be performed by Christchurch arists at the Salvation Army Citadel later this month. The performance is to promote and publicise the work of Contemporary Hymns, Ltd, a non-profit organisation formed in Christchurch five years ago to make new contemporary New Zealand hymns available for church congregations, choirs, and choral groups. It has grown from a small Christchurch group to a national organisation with 350 members, including some living overseas. Twenty-six of the 284 works assessed by the company’s panel have been published. The seven members of the panel are drawn from musical, theological, and literary circles.
On July 20, 16 new hymns will be presented by the Christchurch Citadel Salvation Army Band, the Christchurch Junior Choral Society, the Open Air Campaigners’ Band, Ross McGavin, George Martin, and the Youth for Christ Chorale.
