FERTILISER COST

(N Z Press Association) HAMILTON, July 16. The chairman of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company (Mr R. S. Bates) today called for “an immediate review” of the fertiliser subsidy. “The increased cost of fertiliser has wiped out half the Budget subsidy even before it has become available to. farmers," he said. “This is of the gravest concern to the whole nation, and a review of fertiliser costs is justified and necessary.

“The increased fertiliser prices announced last week, effective from July 3, have substantially eroded the benefit that farmers were expecting from the budget provision of $5 a ton fertiliser subsidy, even before the provision became effective,” Mr Bates said.
