APPLE LOSS POSSIBLE

fN.Z. Press Association!

WELLINGTON, July 16. The present British dock strike might cost the New Zealand Apple and Pear Board $1 million. The general manager of the board (Mr D. L. Waller) said today that 400,000 cartons of apples were either on the way to Britain or waiting to be discharged from ships in the United Kingdom. These were worth $1 million; unless the strike ended soon the sale of the apples would be affected by next season’s British crop. A spokesman for the Meat Board said that initially there should be no worries with New Zealand lamb in Britain because at present there were sufficient stocks to last several weeks.

A Dairy Board si >kesman said stocks of dairy

produce tn Britain were adequate. The board’s main concern was that the strike could delay the departure of ships scheduled to arrive in New Zealand in time to load dairy produce in September.
