SUBMISSION ON RENTALS

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Racecourse rentals should be a matter for negotiations between host and tenant clubs, the Whakatane Racing Club said to the Royal Commission on Racing yesterday. The club had earlier made submissions on the subject but felt obliged to renew Its plea in the light of a Racing Conference Executive Committee ruling which recently increased course rentals by stipulating that off-course as well as oncourse turnover should be considered in setting the rent. The club showed that on the old formula, 1 per cent of oncourse turnover. Its rent at Tauranga, would have been 11493. whereas with the new recipe, 1 per cent of on-course plus a i per cent of off-course, it would pay 93300.
