(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, June 14.
Police this afternoon arrested a 33-year-old man and charged him with forging a ticket in the Waikato district racing club’s jackpot at the Waipa Racing Club’s meeting yesterday. The man, who will appear in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, was also charged that knowing the ticket to be a forgery he caused a man to act upon it as if it were genuine. The secretary of the Waikato Racing Centre (Mr J. K. Wild), said today the district jackpot was worth $105,454, the highest reached by a jackpot pool in New Zealand.
