West Germany and Poland | have completed their exploriatory talks on the resumption lof diplomatic relations, long; embittered by Polish memories of war-time suffering ! under Nazi Germany. i A joint communique says! ' that the two sides had agreed; Ito work out formulae for the! I most important elements of I an agreement, and that the two countries have agreed to [continue their talks in WarI saw in the second half of July. Parallel with its approach Ito the Soviet Union, West I Germany is also trying to iwork out a non-aggression agreement with Poland. The main difficulty is to find ways of satisfying Poland’s demand for recognition of its western border, on the Oder-Neisse River, which places large areas of former German territory inside Poland.
