APPEAL FOR PERU
The sum of $7BO had been received so far by the Canterbury centre of the Red Cross for disaster relief in Peru, the secretary-manager (Mr R. J. Lipscombe) said yesterday. The money had mainly come from Christchurch people, but some had come from the West Coast. Some persons had volunteered to go to Peru to assist with relief for the Red Cross, but so far no request had been made by the international committee of the Red Cross for volunteers. Mr Lipscombe said that during the last 10 years there had been an average of one! Red Cross appeal every 28 days for various sorts of disasters in different parts of the world.
