Night Sale Of Dairy Cattle

A sale of pedigree Jersey cattie in Canterbury Court on Wednesday evening at tracted widespread interest, several lots being purchased by North Island buyers, and two for Australia. The sale, which attracted a crowd of more than 400 persons, included 24 heifers, yearling bulls and cows from the Silverlea Stud of D. J. Martyn, Raiigiera, and 12 head from the Birchbrook Stud of L. PI Hawke, Kaiapoi Twonty-thref of the Silverlea cattle were fold for an average of $258. while nine of the 12 Blrchbrofi cattle were sold for an avenge of $232 A yearllni bull tn the Birchbrook offering topped the sale at $725. the purchaser being W. R. P. Begg i of Dargaville. Five heifers of nixed ages from the same stul sold from $125 to $250 for a.'i average of $lB7. Ten two-year-old heifers tn the Silverlea consignment averaged $207.50, with top price being $5OO, paid by R. W. Shuker. of Waiuku. J. D. Stewart (Invercargill! paid 8325 for another heifer, and two heifers were purchased for an Australian buyer at $3OO and $225. Eight yearling bulls from the same stud averaged $247, with two lots making the top price of $450. The purchasers were C, E. Totty, of Ashburton, and R. W. Frost. Son. and Skurr. of j Rangiora. Another lot went to C A. Croft. No. 3 R D., Christ[church. at $425.

R. w. Shuker paid the top ■price of $350 for a cow in the [Silverlea offering, and another lot went to Mrs K. T. Taylor (Hamilton) at $3OO. The selling agents were Dalgety and New Zealand Loan, Ltd. Angus Dispersal An aggregate of $30,465 was obtained for 91 head at the dispersal of the late Mr Alan Grants “Craigburn” Angus stud at Waimate on Wednesday. This gave an average of $334 a head.

An imported six-year-old cow topped the sale at $2lOO, the purchaser being J. E. D. Roberts, of Middlemarch, and a rising yearling heifer from imported stock went to A. F. Elliott iSedden) at $l4OO.
