TABAK 3rd
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON. The New Zealand cyclist, T. J. Tabak, yesterday demonstrated just how much he has developed since returning to the Netherlands two years and a half ago. Attacking alone in the manner familiar to New Zealanders, Tabak was the outstanding rider on the third stage of the Tour of Britain, although he eventually had to be content with third place. Tabak, who was seventh in the second stage, first came to prominence after 20 miles when he broke away from the bunch to
chase G. Crewe (Britain),: and J. Mikolajczyk (Poland), who had taken an early lead. Three miles after catchingthem, Tabak set out on a long ride over some of I the highest roads in Britain. For 30 miles he: stayed clear of the field,' sometimes by as much as two minutes, but he was caught after 54 of the 86 miles. The Italian, A. Locatelli, stole: away in the last three miles and finished 16sec clear. Tabak was second in the sprint among another four finishers, and j is fourth in the over-all I classification.
