Social Credit League
Sir, —I congratulate your leader-writer for seizing upon what I consider the most adverse piece of publicity emanating from the Social Credit conference—the inability to agree on a definition of social credit However, you have noted it was the technical and education committee which brought the matter up; therefore it was obvious that a technical definition of social credit was required. This is always difficult. A dozen parsons on a panel would not agree on a technical definition of Christianity. Can a team of Tories agree on a technical definition of competitive enterprise? The originator of social credit, C. H. Douglas, put this matter wisely: “The introduction of technical details can only result in a party split in which the minority (since the matter is technical) is almost sure to be right, but in which the majority, having the power, will overrule them.”—Yours, G. M. EDMONDS. May 27, 1970.
Sir, —The chaos at the annual conference of the Social Credit League has again confirmed my view that it is a band of financial wizards. The so-called debtfree credit is a myth as it is only wholesale creation of Reserve Bank credit Our currency would become worthless, and there would be heavy unemployment. Social Credit not only has undergone leadership changes, but has also changed some of its policies such as the A-plus-B theorem and the “gap” theory. Mr O’Brien said that there will be radical Social Credit policies and yet he up to now supported Mr Cracknell whom he now calls a conservative.—Yours, etc., DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST. May 27, 1970.
