P. Bhana In N.Z. Squad

P. Bhana, the Linwood Old Boys centre-half, who has not yet represented Canterbury, has been added to the New Zealand hockey squad, which will train in Napier next week-end. Bhana has been in very good form for his club this season, controlling his side well in the link position, and his all-round play being of a high standard. A member of the Canterbury training squad this year and last, Bhana toured Australia with the New Zealand Colts in 1968. His inclusion in the New Zealand squad has resulted from the withdrawal of two Auckland players, A. Cooper and R. Somerville. Although no reflection on Bhana’s undoubted ability, New Zealand is desperately short of experienced halves for the World Cup elimination match against Australia in August. Two members of the Mexico Olympic team, S. G. Maister who is overseas, and K. T. Thomson who has not been selected, are not in the squad.
