Mafia Ties Alleged
(N Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ST LOUIS, May 25. The Mayor of St Louis (Mr Olfonso Cervantes) said yesterday that a report in the magazine “Life” that he had personal and business ties with gangsters, was a barefaced lie. “Life” had alleged that the mayor’s clients included “Mafia leaders like Anthony Giardano and John Vitale,” and it also reported that Tony Sansone, a real estate and insurance man, was “the Mayor's liaison with the two mobs that run the St Louis underworld.” Sansone is the son-in-law of the alleged gang leader, Jimmy Michaels. Mr Cervantes indicated that he would file a suit against the magazine.
