FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A large anticyclone centred east of Sydney extends across the Tasman Sea to northern and central New Zealand; a slowly decreasing westerly airstream prevails south of the Tasman Sea and New Zealand.

Forecast: Canterbury.—Light to moderate variable winds; fine; warm in the afternoon. Marlborough and Nelson.—Moderate to fresh winds, west to north-west in most places but south-west in parts of Nelson; fine and mild.

Buller and Westland.—Light to moderate winds from between north and west; rather cloudy and cool with scattered light showers.

Outlook: Fair weather all districts.
