Stewardship Questioned

(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 15. Booksellers’ profits on a new sixth-form biology textbook were used in Parliament today to question the Government’s “stewardship with public money.” Mr R. J. Tizard (Lab., Pakuranga), said booksellers who had had no part in writing, publishing or printing the book were receiving a markup of $1.20 “simply for collating orders” from schools. The book, which was prepared within the Department of Education’s curriculum development unit with the assistance of some university staff, was printed by the Government Printer. The Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys), told Parliament two weeks ago that schools could buy the book direct from the Government Printer if they wished. t
