United Is Threat, Warns Bay Coach
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND.
The Auckland United (Blockhouse Bay) coach, B. Ormond, yesterday warned Auckland’s two other national soccer league clubs, Eastern Suburbs and Mount Wellington, not to read too much into his team’s 4-1 win over Christchurch United last Saturday.
“United is a good team—don’t worry about that,” Ormond said. “With a couple more games under its belt, it will be really dangerous.”
Ormond said he had never seen better football from a Blockhouse side. “Mick Seed had an excellent day In the midfield—the Christchurch people named him player of the day,” he said.
Auckland United was better match - conditioned, due mainly to the pre-season tournament, “and the keener competition up here is really proving valuable,” Ormond added.
“We watched St Kilda and Technical in action before our; game, and the pace was like a funeral.
“But there is plenty of talent in this United side, and once it steps up the pace of its football, as it must do in the new league, it will cause a lot of trouble.”
