Gift For Home The Canterbury Flower Arrangement Society has set aside s3oo' for George Manning House, the Manchester Unity Welfare Homes Trust Board was told last evening by the board’s secretary (Mr H. R. Peers). The society will use the money to present a television set to the house when it is established in Lyttelton Street, Sydenham. The house will be administered by the board. Tenders should be called about June. §32,000 In Grants Grants totalling $2184 were approved for the year at a meeting of the board of the John Cowens St George Hospital Trust Fund this week. In the 17 years since the fund was set up in perpetuity under the will of John Cowens, a retired farmer of West Eyreton, the annual grants amount to more than $32,000. The grants are made to assist patients in meeting medical and surgical fees. The names of the recipients are confidential. The board comprises the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt), the chairman of the executive of St George’s Hospital (Mi L. A. Bennett) and the District Public Trustee (Mr V. E. Barker). Farm Passed In “Tallarook,” a 733-acre grazing and fattening property at Te Pirita, 12 miles from Dunsandel, was passed in at $85,803 when offered at auction by the NMA Company of New Zealand, Ltd, in Christchurch yesterday on account of K. F. and H. M. Mcßride. Bidding opened at $B5 an acre and the property was passed in at $lll an acre. The freehold property, which carries more than 3300 sheep, has a colonial-style house with three bedrooms. The Government valuation is $76,800. The auctioneer was Mr W. 0. Harrington. Hospital Gala About $450 was raised for the patients’ recreation fund at the visitors’ day and gala | held at the Queen Mary HosI pital, Haruner Springs, last Saturday. The attendance was not as large as expected. Visitors were taken on tours over the hospital, grounds and pools. The hospital staff has expressed its gratitude to those who supported the function. Plane Damaged A CessnalBo light aircraft damaged its undercarriage and propeller when landing at Welcome Flat, in South Westland, on Tuesday evening. The pilot, Mr A. McKee, of Clinton, and his passenger walked out from the airstrip and spent the night at Fox Glacier. Arrangements were made yesterday for the aircraft to be repaired.— (F.0.0.R.).
