HOPES OF TRUST
Support For Ballet
Ballet was a cultural business which the country needed and the people should have, said the new chairman of the New Zealand Ballet Trust Board (Mr J. L. Chapman).
His election as chairman of the board for 1970 was announced at the week-end. Mr Chapman, a Wellington city councillor, said the Queen Elizabeth Arts Council had given ballet firm support, especially during the recent difficulties, and the ballet trust was looking with extreme interest to Arts Conference 70, which will begin on Friday, to ‘discover what influence it would bring to bear.
Mr Chapman said that since Arts Conference 70 was an I outcome of the National Development Conference, he was confident its effects would be far-reaching and would alter significantly the climate for the arts in the 19705.
