NEW S.I. TRAIN

Replacement Not Named (From Our Ow» Reporter) WELLINGTON. April 6. The upgraded train which will replace the South Island Daylight Limited between Invercargill and Christchurch on December 1 is so far nameless. There is no indication that it will adopt the name “Blue Streak." The Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) told Parliament today tha the new train would have deep carpet and fluorescent lighting, and that the fare would be half-way between the present first and second class. Answering questions from the new member for Awarua (Mr H. Templeton, Nat.), Mr Gordon said the new train would cover the distance in 10 hours, about 1 hour and 40 minutes quicker than the present train. Some stops would havv to be eliminated, but there would definitely be stops at Ashburton, Timaru, Oamaru. Dunedin, Balclutha and Gore.
