BUTTERFLY RECORD
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Miss E. Williams (Auckland) made a claim to Commonwealth Games consideration when she broke the national women s 220 yards butterfly record while swimming in a special attempt at the tepid baths, Auckland, last night. Her time of 2min 36.75ec was o.ssec under Miss H. Kerr s record which has stood for four years. .» Miss Williams’s record was all the more remarkable because she has not been training since mid-March. after the announcement of the swimming nominations at the close of the national championships. When an extension of time was announced late last week she had been training twice a day since Friday. Her time, converted to a long-course pool, places her eighth-equal in the Commonwealth.
