S.A.C. Building
Sir, —Mr Scoular has an unenviable task in being the sole arbiter of the aesthetics of the proposed S.A.C. building in the Square. We have in Christchurch some fine new buildings of lively architectural character—the Students Union building and School of Forestry at Ham. We also unfortunately have some that have been pressed upon us, such as the Government Life Building in the Square, which shows a keenly insensitive handling of exterior surface feature. It appears from the print of the proposed building that strongly defined window areas are uniform over the whole surface. Could these not be enlivened by other achitectural features so that the facade would have a more imaginative character? Please, Mr Scoular.—Yours, etc., PRE VALE. March 21, 1970.
