FREEZING INDUSTRY
Mr Muldoon’s View
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Mar. 19.
Overseas-owned freezing companies were of benefit to New Zealand, the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) said to the electoral committee of the Meat and Wool Boards today..
“I cannot subscribe to the view that overseas-owned companies simply exploit the producer and give nothing in return. The overseas com panies have given us the benefit of very large capita] ■ investments, not only in meat- ! processing works, but also in ishipping and in marketing facilities in their country of origin,” Mr Muldoon said. “I still have no enthusiasm for the investment of New Zealand capital in shipping, as a much better return can be obtained by investment in other locally-based industries.”
