MR V. SMITH

Mr Vincent Smith, a wellknown sheep-farmer in Marlborough and Canterbury, died recently. With his father, the late Mr Christopher Smith, he introduced stud Southdown sheep to Marlborough from tbe Dannevirke stud of Mr R. McDonald. Mr Smith showed his father’s stud in Marlborough, Nelson and Canterbury, gaining top price for the best ram at the Canterbury Ram Fair.

A Marlborough representative in both Rugby and athletics, Mr Smith was a member of the Cavalry team that visited Christchurch towards the end of the 19205.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons, both farming in Canterbury. His only surviving brother farms the Homestead Block at Sprngston, Rangiora, and there are two sisters.
