Hen Eggs Up 6c
(N.Z. Preus Association) WELLINGTON, March 20. All grades of hen eggs will rise 6c tomorrow, the assistant general manager of the Egg Marketing Authority (Mr K. Cowdrey) said today. Eggs will be restored to the approximate price levels they were last December before the price was reduced because of over-production, he said. In spite of the rise eggs would still be about 8c below the retail price in March, 1969. Since egg prices were reduced in December a poultry farmer with an average 5000 bird unit had been losing up to $285 a week from his normal gross income, Mr Cowdrey said. To ensure a continuous plentiful supply of eggs and to keep faith with the poultry farmer the Egg Marketing Authority had found it necessary to restore 6c to the price of eggs.
