Tekapo Church
Sir, —After reading the article “Tourism Runs Riot.” I vividly remembered a visit that iny husband and 1 made to the Churci. of the Good Shepherd on Saturday, February 10, 1968. between 9 and 10 in the morning, Our entry to the church was accompanied by some children, who tumbled about the building in a most unseemly way. under and upon the seats. My - husband and I tried to restrain them, but to little aval). Finally my husband was so indignant that he turned them outside. Various things indicated that they were local children, not visitors. Churches, like libraries and art galleries, are not places for children to make into playgrounds. We would not like to see them ex-! eluded, but they should be taught that these are “quiet j places” for everyone, and to, behave accordingly. We feel, that the Rev. K. T. Davy may be wrong in ascribing the, whole of the blame to the, tourist foi "sacrilegious” be-; haviour.—Yours, etc., MARY HOWARD. February 28. 1970.
