“NO HOPER” WINS GRAND FINAL

MELBOURNE.
The Victorian pacer Bold David, declared a “no hoper” by his trainet-driver, A. Simons, before the race on Saturday night, led all the way to win the $40,000 Inter-Dominion Grand Final.
Bold David streaked away to beat the South Australian fancy, Bylaw, by five yards. Another South Australian horse, Bon Adios, was two yards further back, third.
Bold David, the outsider among the six front markers, was the only horse from the front to start cleanly. The favourite, Adios Court, began slowly, Deep Court broke and Tara Meadow galloped after a few strides.
Bold David, which won a 112} furlong qualifying division on the second night of | the carnival, paced the testing H miles 36 yards in an exceptionally fast mile rating of 2:6 3-s—only l/sth of a second outside Cocky Raider’s course record.
Bold David went out of favour when he drew the outside
barrier position. Simons said after the race that once he jumped in front and the horses behind him began to jumble he knew Bold David was a certainty.
Among the back markers, the Western Australian mare, Dainty’s Daughter, finished an excellent fourth and the Queensland champion, Lucky Creed was a good fifth. The New South Wales pacer. Cocky Raider, npw sold to American interests, brilliantly to win the first consolation race. The second consolation went to the Victorian pacer, Imatoff, from the New Zealand horse. Co Pilot.
Driver Suspended The Perth reinsman, B. Cushing, who drove Dainty’s daughter, had his driver’s licence suspended for four weeks for shifting ground too sharply, forcing Tara Meadow on to Adios Court soon after the turn out of the back straight in the bell lap. There is now a big doubt whether Dainty’s Daughter will go to Sydney for the $25,000 Miracle Mile on March 13.
The totalisator investments and bookmakers holding for the four nights shattered all previous records at the InterDominion.
Victorians on and off course wagered $5,176,794 on the four meetings. Of this total $2,281,555 was handled by bookmakers on course. Results:—
