CHANGE TO ELLERSLIE
New Stand At Pukekohe (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Ellerslie will be used for the next two. and possibly three, meetings held by the Franklin Racing Club. The members’ stand at the Pukekohe racecourse will be demolished and work started on a new stand expected to cost about $500,000, Car racing will, however, continue to be held at Pukekohe. At present six major meetings, including the New Zealand Grand Prix, and about 12 minor rallies take place on the course. The club’s secretary (Mr J. Evans) said at the week-end that dates had to be approved for next season but he expected the club would hold meetings at Ellerslie on August 1 and November 28. It would depend on progress on the new building whether the club would need to use Ellerslie for its mid-summer meeting in January. Mr Evans said car racing could be continued on the course because only officials—never more than 50—used the members’ stand. They would be able .to find alternative accommodation.
