Airline Security DOUBTS ABOUT WORLD ACTION
(ft.Z PA.-Reuter—Copyright)
TEL AVIV, March 1
The Israeli Minister of Transport (Mr Ezer Weizmann) has expressed grave doubts that international action will be taken to prevent sabotage against civil air traffic to Israel.
Interviewed on Israeli; radio, Mr Weizmann. who was! formerly at the head of thej Israeli Air Force, said: “Wei demand that the world not; only condemns countries! which provide refuge for such criminals, but treats them as criminals should be treated. “The saboteur who placed
; explosives in an Austrian air!liner a week ago escaped to! [ Egypt, and Egypt should hand; [him over, like any criminal.) [Otherwise, international or-j ganisations should stop all air traffic to and from Egypt. “But I doubt whether any! serious international action will be taken.” [ Mr Weizmann said that he ;did not think Israel was [being subjected to a blockade in the air. As far as Israel was concerned, any such blockade would be no different than the closing of the Straits of Tiran. The closing of the straits, at the southern tip of the i Sinai Peninsula, and the [ closing of the entrance to !the Gulf of Aqaba and Israel’s Red Sea port of Eilat, were a direct cause of the six-day war'of Jung, 1967.
