New Abortion Law In Hawaii
(N.Z. Press Assn. — Copyright) HONOLULU, Feb. 27. A bill to legalise abortions in Hawaii has been given final approval by the State Legislature and approval by the Governor (Mr John Bums) is expected within a matter of days. Under the new law, abortions in Hawaii will be easier to obtain than in any other American state. The only restrictions are that the mother must have been a resident of Hawaii for 90 days before the operation, which must be done by a licensed doctor in a hospital, and it must take place before the unborn baby could live outside the mother’s womb, or about 20 weeks after conception. The measure leaves to the I mother the decision whether I to have an abortion. It reI peals criminal penalties which I have sometimes been blamed for illegally-obtained abortions.
