HEARING IN WELLINGTON
Manslaughter Charge (N.Z, Press Association) GISBORNE, Feb. 27. Legal argument on the charge of manslaughter against Barry John Crump, aged 34, a writer, and George Vansel Johnston, aged 31, a professional guide, will be heard in the Supreme Court, Wellington, before Mr JusticeTompkins on March 12. The charge arose after an accident at Lake Matahina on September 4, 1969, when five boys drowned. The boys were staying at an adventure camp run by Crump and Johnston.
The manslaughter charge concerns the death of one of the boys.
After a hearing in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court before Mr W. M. Willis. S.M, both men were committed to the Supreme Court at Gisborne for trial However, no fixture was made at the nowcompleted February session pending the arrangement for hearing legal argument.
