Race Through The Night

A fleet of keelers left Lyttelton at 10 o’clock last evening to compete in the 70*mile offshore race to Motunau Island and back.

This is the longest race in the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club’s programme and provides a combination of requirements in night navigation and seamanship. Last year’s winner, Melita <S. Carrick), is unlikely to win this time, but could still take the Craddock Cup on corrected time. The Commodore’s Trophy for line honours should be won easily by Tactile Too (C. and N. Jones).

The yachts are expected back in port this afternoon.
