Marlborough By-Election
Sir.—“R.M.” is right about ithe need for a strong Govern‘ment, and the majority of the Marlborough electors felt that it should be a Labour Government. “R.M.” is wrong in {blaming the unions for our {industrial troubles as wages {have fallen far behind prices ;due to vicious price increases {inflicted by vested interests {Wage rises do not cause price increases as they only cover past price increases, and so {subsequent price rises are excuses to increase profits. The Government’s defeat last Saturday shows that the people now prefer Labour’s policy of having firms notify the Trade !Practices Commission before i increasing prices.—Yours etc., DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST. February 26. 1970. £.s.d. Sir,—The silly season fot decimal cranks is here again Surely if a vendor wishes tc advertise his prices in pounds or pesos, yen, or roubles, fot that matter, it is his own affair, and if “Ban f.s.d.” and others like him dislike this they can demonstrate their dislike by purchasing elsewhere.—Yours, etc., COLONIAL.
