New Zealand’s entry into Charolais cattle breeding is already reaping dividends in substantial sales to Australia. In Christchurch last week-end reporting sales of more than 200 cattle worth more than s2oo,ooo—females inseminated with Charolais semen or the. progeny of matings using Charolais semen—Mr L. Busquets. stud stock manager for New South Wales for Elder Smith, Goldsbrough Mort Ltd. said that with cattle under option for delivery later in the year and early next yeat purchases were likely to exceed the quarter million dollars mark. Mr Busquets said that the main suppliers of the cattle were Mr K. Finlayson, of Mossburn, Southland, the Aciands of Mount Peel station, Caughey Brothers, of Lake Te Anau, and Animal Breeding Services (N.Z.), Ltd, of Hamilton. The main buyers of the cattle were Gunn Rural Management and the Fairymead Sugar Company, of Queensland, and Mr Busquets said that another 50 cattle, for which negotiations had begun before Christmas, had also been purchased for another Queensland breeder.
