"The Press" Special Service HASTINGS. Black Sgit, which is the likely favourite for the McWHUamr Wines Handicap at the Napier Park races tomorrow, worked impressively in his final trial at Hastings yesterday morning. Bluffing, Chill, Sir Barton and Relampago were others to work well. The course proper trestles were the proper distance out and the going was fast, in spite of a thick sole of grass. Thb plough, which had been i watered, was slightly holding. On the plough Luana (L. Carston) comfortably beat Mr Spy (B. Kirke) over half a mile jin 50 3-ssec. the last three in 37 3-ssec. Luana, the winner in each of her two most recent attempts appears to have an excellent chance in the McVay Handicap. Black Suit <R. Marsh) was two. lengths behind the speedy Codeene early in their trial, but a good two lengths clear at the end of five in Imin 6 l-ssec, the last three in 40sec. Black Suit won easily over a mile in intermediate class at Awapuni week and although he would prefer a shower or two of rain he must be hard to beat again. Dark Knowledge <J. Panapa), which will be ridden by J. F. i Harris in the McVay Handicap, went with Ayrshire Lad (D. (Withington) and they ran five furlongs in Imin 5 3-ssec. the ; last three in 39sec. Dark knowledge is at peak fitness. He should be hard to beat. Chill (T. Whittington) was given an easy task over three furlongs to top off her Cup preparation and she ran the distance in 38 2-ssec. The winner of the Wairoa Cup and the sprint at Woodville lately, she must appeal strongly. Relampago (R. Marsh? ran five furlongs boldly in ln)in 4 4-ssec, the last three in 39sec. He is very fit and has been racing consistently well. Bluffing (D. Withington) was given an easy gallop over six furlongs in Imin 24 l-ssec, the last three in 44sec. Leon went very easily over five in Imin 9 3-ssec, the last three in 42 2-ssec. Bluffing and Leon have freshened and are fit for their races in the Cup and the McVay! respectively. Sir Barton (D. Thomas) and Jaunty < Lange) took Imin 35 j 4-ssec for seven furlongs the I last three in 40 3-ssec. Sir Barton is ready for a good race ini the cup. He is tough and very fit. Jaunty is in the high-weight, iHe showed good form at Gisi borne and is improving.
